About the Editor-In-Chief
Dr Verlumun Celestine Gever is a highly distinguished communication scholar, currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Mdooter Journal of Communication and Digital Technologies. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and his profile is marked by exceptional research impact and global academic recognition.
Dr Gever is ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for the 2024 data, according to analysis by Stanford University/Elsevier (as referenced by the Top Researchers List). He has consistently maintained a high national standing, ranked among the top 500 scholars in Nigeria based on the Scopus SciVal authors ranking. Notably, based on his Scopus publications, Dr Gever has been ranked the number one communication scholar in Nigeria since 2019.
His scholarly productivity is extensive and globally recognised. As of September 25, 2025, he has published over 90 articles in Scopus (with 733 citations and an H-index of 16) and 80 articles in Web of Science (with 537 citations and an H-index of 15). Furthermore, he demonstrates a strong commitment to scholarly integrity, having completed 137 verified peer reviews in Web of Science. His publications have appeared in premier academic journals from leading publishers, including Elsevier, SAGE, Springer Nature, Taylor and Francis, Oxford University Press, Emerald, and Wiley Online. Demonstrating his academic entrepreneurship, Dr Gever is also the founder of the Scopus-indexed journal, the Ianna Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies.
Dr Gever's expertise is enriched by his international experience. He is an alumnus of the Centre for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS), Bochum, Germany, where he served as a Research Fellow from October 2023 to March 2024. During this time, he received a grant from the Centre for Research and Innovation Programme for the publication of a special issue on the impact of digital media on research in the 21st century. He also holds a designation as a Research Fellow of the INTI International University, Malaysia.
Academically, Dr Gever attained his first degree in Mass Communication from Kogi State University, Anyigba (now Prince Abubakar Audu University), where he was recognised as the Best Graduating Student in the Department for the 2012 set. He further solidified his foundation with Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, both in Mass Communication. Complementing his academic credentials, Dr Gever also holds a Proficiency Certificate in Strategic Management from the International Strategic Management Institute (ISMI) and is a certified member of the institute.
He is an active member of several professional bodies, including the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) and the International Crisis Management Association, United Kingdom. His outstanding academic performance has earned him six awards, including an Excellence Award from the International Strategic Management Institute for his first novel, The Corper. His diverse skills—which encompass novel and poem writing, proficiency in statistical analysis software like the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), and conducting standard scientific research—have led his contemporaries to describe him as 'an encyclopedia'. Dr. Gever is known for being exceptionally hardworking and consistent, maintaining a philosophy that the surest way to success is to be methodical in his actions: "do what you say and also say what you can do."
